You cannot bring
about prosperity by discouraging thrift. |

You cannot strengthen
the weak by weakening the strong. |

|
You cannot help
little men by tearing down big men. |

You cannot lift
the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. |

You cannot help
the poor by destroying the rich. |

You cannot establish
sound security on borrowed money. |

You cannot further
the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. |

You cannot keep
out of trouble by spending more than you earn. |

You cannot build
character and courage by destroying men's initiative and independence. |

And you cannot
help men permanently by doing for them what they can and should do for
themselves. |

The
American Thinker
"The American Thinker is devoted to
the thoughtful exploration of issues of importance to Americans. Contributors
are accomplished in fields beyond journalism, and animated to write for
the general public out of concern for the complex and morally significant
questions on the national agenda."
"The American Thinker" is an
original oil painting, brilliantly executed by artist Sean Cheetham. His
work was featured in the critically acclaimed 2003 film Northfork, starring
James Woods, Nick Nolte, and Daryl Hannah. The painting was specially commisioned
for americanthinker.com. It symbolizes the thoughtful patriotism, and consciousness
of the importance of history and tradition, which our website strives to
embody. |

Founded in 1976, the Ethics and Public
Policy Center is
Washington, D.C.'s premier institute dedicated to applying the Judeo-Christian
moral tradition to critical issues of public policy. From the Cold War
to the war on terrorism, from disputes over the role of religion in public
life to battles over the nature of the family, EPPC and its scholars have
consistently sought to defend the great Western ethical imperatives --
respect for the inherent dignity of the human person, individual freedom
and responsibility, justice, the rule of law, and limited government |

News ? Commentary
"AEI's standing in the national media is
unmatched by any other policy research institute. The work of AEI scholars
is cited more frequently and is published far more often in the leading
U.S. newspapers and news magazines than the work of scholars at other national
think tanks." |
